Polychrome Dry-Stone Wall
Summer 2017
This colorful wall was the first project completed by Comerford Stonecraft in the summer of 2017. The client, who lives west of Rochester originally began building the wall but could not finish and it sat for a couple years before she reached out to me and began the conversation.
Using the ancient principles of dry-stone walling, I stacked stone on stone without the use of mortar, which makes for a ultra-strong and dynamic structure. Comprised of locally harvested sandstone, dolomite, granite and limestone, this wall loaded with color and is why I call it "Polychrome".
The top of the wall, or the cap, is comprised of tightly fitted pieces of Pennsylvania Bluestone that I drilled and cut from two huge 5'x8' quarried slabs. The steps are also made of bluestone with polychrome inlays.
